Couples Therapy
At Refuge Counseling Birmingham, I specialize in helping couples rebuild connection and create secure bonds using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). As a trained EFT therapist, I guide couples to identify negative interaction patterns and develop deeper understanding of each other's emotional needs. This evidence-based approach helps couples move from distress to secure connection by addressing the root causes of conflict.
I also incorporate principles from Gottman Method Therapy (Levels 1 & 2) to help couples strengthen friendship, manage conflict productively, and create shared meaning in their relationship.
Trauma Recovery
Trauma can impact every aspect of life, affecting both mind and body. I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy to help clients process traumatic memories and reduce their emotional charge. My approach also incorporates somatic techniques that address how trauma is stored in the body, helping clients reconnect with physical sensations in a safe, controlled manner.
Betrayal Trauma
I have specialized training in supporting individuals dealing with the profound impact of betrayal, particularly within relationships affected by sex addiction. I understand the unique challenges betrayed partners face and provide a safe haven where your experiences are validated, your boundaries respected, and your healing journey prioritized.
Partners often experience symptoms similar to PTSD after betrayal, including intrusive thoughts, hypervigilance, and emotional flooding. My approach combines trauma-informed care with practical strategies for rebuilding safety and trust—whether you choose to rebuild your relationship or move forward independently.
